The cafe scene in Chiang Mai is unusually deep for a city this size. Nimman alone has hundreds of coffee shops within walking distance, from third-wave roasters pulling competition-grade espresso to garden cafes and rooftop spots. The Old City inside the moat leans toward smaller, character-led cafes in converted shophouses and teak houses, Santitham is the quieter, cheaper student-and-local belt to the north, and the Wat Ket side of the river holds a string of riverside cafes that stay calmer through the day.
For remote workers the useful split is between cafes built for a quick coffee and cafes you can actually work from. The work-friendly ones tend to share a few traits: real WiFi rather than a hotspot, power outlets near the seating, large tables or a long communal bench, and air-conditioning for the hot months from March to May. We tag each listing with what reviewers and the venue actually report, so you can tell a laptop cafe from a pretty photo cafe before you walk over.
Pricing is low by international standards. A specialty flat white usually runs from around 60 to 90 THB, a filter coffee a little more, and most cafes are happy for you to sit for a couple of hours on one drink. A few of the busiest spots cap laptop use at peak times or on weekends, so it is worth checking the listing notes if you plan a long session.
Almost every cafe that draws an international crowd has English menus and English-speaking staff, which makes the city an easy place to settle into a routine. The cooler season from November to February is the most comfortable for the open-air and garden cafes, while the hot season pushes most people toward the air-conditioned rooms.
Browse the listings below by neighbourhood, or filter for the things that matter for a work session: quiet rooms, fast WiFi, plenty of outlets and late hours. Every cafe page has the location, contact links and what we know about working there, so you can confirm the details directly.
A slow cafe morning pairs neatly with an afternoon temple or mountain tour once the laptop is closed.See tours
